SEPTEMBER 11 , TWO YEARS ON
Terrorism is not a nice thing , be it the bombing of the King David Hotel , or the flying of airplanes into buildings . This day is also the 30th Anniversary of the overthrow of the Chilean Government . It is a day of sadness and reflection . Our thoughts are with those who are left behind .
If the Battle of Gettysburg was the price of the South having Robert E. Lee , 911 was the price of America having George W. Bush . If one casts their mind back to the state of the World at the beginning of the Millennium and compares it with what we have now there can be no doubt that we are the worse off . This is the period of the Bush administration .
This is not an anti American diatribe , it is in fact , very much pro American . It is written so these events will never happen again and those responsible will be dealt with . This is the only way the deaths of so many people can have some reason .
From the outset , the Bush administration has acted internationally in a unilateral fashion without regard to effects on others and basic human rights . The effect of this was to increase support for terrorism directed towards the United States and the 911 attack .
There are two things which must be done to stop this madness . The first is to realise the reasons for anti American sentiment , not accept it , but understand it . There are many causes of terrorism which must be rectified . Denying one's enemies the protection of the Geneva Conventions is an abomination . The second thing is to hunt those responsible down .
911 was a massive
intelligence failure , the reasons for this should be clearly stated and
rectified . Please consider the difference in intellectual rigour applied to
the Space
Shuttle Columbia Investigation and the 911
Investigations ( See also : Analysis
Of White House Obstruction Of 911 Investigations ) .
Afghanistan was a good beginning in the hunt , buy now has been left
to wither . The country must be given ongoing support and security throughout
it's borders , otherwise it will appear that the world and America does not care
and the Taliban , or worse , will be back . Bin Laden is most likely in a 40
square mile area of Pakistan , why not put a Division , that is prepared
to fight , into the area and get rid of him ?
Iraq was , simply , a con job , it had and has nothing to do with terrorism . Good from the point of human rights , but it has made the world less safe . The Bush administration has lost the plot and is now in a quagmire from which they appear incapable of extracting themselves . They have diverted resources which should be used to counter terrorism , not to mention the human cost e.g. the Guinea Pig Club . The American military establishment is now fully committed , there is no reserve to deal with other threats to US and World security .
Any President or Prime Minister who recklessly commits his nation to War does not deserve to stay in office .
As we see it , all of the above actions must be carried out in the memory of those who died on September 11 , 2001 , October 12 , 2002 in Bali and in so many other places and times . Our thoughts are with all Americans today .
We do not wish for this page to become a slanging match . Please go to PAGE 2 for that .
FRANCE
Those in the United States who are demonising the French should look at the American Revolutionary War , in particular the period 29 September - 19 October , 1781 . The then " Rebels " could not have won at Yorktown without the French fleet in the Chesapeake , with it's supplies of siege cannon etc. , and French troops on the ground . The Republic would have been lost five years after it's establishment .
The French can be an arrogant lot , as witnessed in the settlement of WW I , which , in part led to the rise of fascism and WW II . More recently , they have murdered Greenpeace protestors in New Zealand and detonated nuclear weapons in the South Pacific . They should be condemned for these and similar actions but , please a little benefit of the doubt over Iraq .
