Samuel Johnson was born in Sydney and educated at Sydney and Oxford Universities .
His upbringing was a conventional middle-class one , with the exception that his mother , also a teacher , believed in corporal punishment for his misdemeanours . Punishment usually taking the form of a long over the knee spanking with the hairbrush was and tears soon followed . As those of you who are of his generation will understand that this was not an uncommon event for both sexes . His understanding of , and fervour for , corporal punishment developed at this time .
Originally he intended a military career , however a parachuting accident damaged his spine and he was discharged . Subsequently , he was allowed to join the Reserve where he soon established himself as an expert in strategic analysis , rising to field rank in the process .
Concurrently he studied at the Arts Faculty of Sydney University . Upon graduation he was awarded a scholarship to the University at Oxford to read American history , an interest which he still actively pursues today .
He has held a number of teaching positions at private schools in both Sydney and Melbourne . He is presently the headmaster of a private school in Sydney . He was appointed to the Spankoz Adult School in 1998 .
He is married , with a wife who also shares his interest corporal punishment , he has two children who have recently left home to further their education overseas .
